Bruce & Laurie Johnson | Calling

We went on our first trip to Honduras in June of 1995. The plan was to go on a "short-term" one week trip... God had other plans. Laurie sensed the call to missions a year before the trip and Bruce while on the field of Honduras. God called and we are stake our lives on it sure.

The short-term trip was to go and be a part of the ministries of Baptist Medical & Dental Mission International out of Hattiesburg, MS. The crux of the BMDMI mission organization is to carry short-term medical-dental-evangelism teams into the rural parts of Central America. Our part of that trip was for Bruce to help put a roof on a church building and Laurie to serve where needed (she ended up in crowd control). You can get more information about BMDMI here.

We submitted to God's call and the missionary field of Honduras in June of 1995 shortly after our return from the short-term trip; the BMDMI Board of Directors gave us their approval July 23, 1995. By December '95 we were headed for a year long stay in Costa Rica at language school. Language learning covered all of '96 and with that test of our faith and courage behind us we arrived as missionaries to Honduras in 1997.
By God's grace, and for His glory,
                     we are still serving today...

Laurie started, and runs, the Good Shepherd Christian Education Center located on the grounds of the Good Shepherd Children's Home property. Laurie reaches the children of the Home as well as the surrounding community with God's grace through education.

Bruce is involved in the construction efforts of BMDMI and functions as the mission's general contractor and projects coordinator. He also functions as the mission's Webmaster, writes Online and Excel accounting software, and has a Photo Ministry to the Short Term Mission Teams.  Salvation testimony Here. Bruce is an ordained Deacon and Minister of the Gospel by Westside Baptist Church.

Bruce and Laurie were commissioned as missionaries of Westside Baptist Church in 1995 and BMDMI in 1996.

UPDATE:  As of May 2017, Bruce and Laurie have returned to the United States and now reside in Baton Rouge, La.  We are thankful to God for their 22 years of faithful service.
